How we score

Researched 2026-09-04

The criteria and weights below were fixed before the platforms were scored. They are published so you can disagree with them precisely.

The five criteria

Features for an insurance book

25% weight

Not raw feature count. How much of an insurance workflow — households, policies, renewals, carriers, commissions, licensing, compliant client messaging — the platform models out of the box, before you build anything.

Price and price transparency

25% weight

What it costs, and whether you can find that out without a sales call. A published rate card scores higher than a quote, because you can budget against it. Mandatory onboarding fees and usage-based add-ons count against the score.

Flexibility

20% weight

Custom fields and objects, automation depth, API access, integrations, and how far the tool bends to an unusual workflow before you need a developer.

Technical tutorials available

15% weight

Public documentation, structured courses, and independent third-party video training. A large community teaching the product is worth more than a polished first-party help centre alone.

Client self-serve

15% weight

Can an agent sign up, get in, load data and be productive without a demo, a contract negotiation or an implementation consultant? Sales-gated products score low here by definition.

Weights are our editorial judgement about what matters to a small or mid-sized insurance agency. If your situation weights them differently, the ranking changes — and we show you how in the section below.

If you weight it differently

This ranking gives price, flexibility, tutorials and self-serve access a combined 75% of the score, because most agencies shopping for a CRM are trying to get productive quickly without a procurement process. If instead you care most about a deep insurance data model — group benefits, commission processing, ACORD forms — the order changes and the purpose-built agency management systems move up. The per-criterion scores in the table let you re-weight it yourself.

What this ranking is not

It is not an independent audit, a certification, or a test of security or uptime. We have not run penetration tests, we do not publish customer counts, and we do not rank by anyone's revenue or advertising. Vendor pricing changes without notice — always confirm current pricing directly with the vendor before you buy.

Scores are our own editorial assessment against the published criteria, not an independent audit. Vendor pricing and features change; verify directly with each vendor before buying.

Common questions

Do vendors pay to be included?

No. No vendor pays for inclusion, placement or score.

Why are there no star ratings or user reviews?

Because we have not collected any. Publishing aggregate user ratings we have not verified would be manufacturing credibility; we would rather show explicit criteria you can argue with.
